Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Rauf Siddiqui and Anis Qaimkhani of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) were released from custody on Wednesday following Sindh High Court’s decision to grant them bail in a case relating to treatment of terrorists.
“I was released on the court’s order and Waseem Akhtar and other imprisoned workers are in high spirits,” said the MQM leader while addressing a press conference in Karachi.
Farooq Sattar added that MQM is a peaceful party and their party wants to serve the people and address basic issues faced by the people of Karachi.
Anis Qaimkhani of PSP, after his release from prison, said going to prison is part of politics and the “party has just started”.
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday approved the bail applications of Rauf Siddiqui andAnis Kaimkhani in a case relating to the alleged treatment of terrorists.
The bench, headed by Justice Mohammed Ali Mazhar, also directed the accused persons to deposit their original valid passports in the trial court and not to leave the country without permission of the trial court.
This was the fifth bench constituted for the hearing of the bail applications, as some members of the earlier benches recused themselves from hearing the bail applications.
The court also directed the trial court to conclude the trial within two months as considerable time had already lapsed without any progress in trial.
The court also approved the bail application of Dr Asim Hussain in the same case.
Dr Asim was booked on the complaint of Rangers for allegedly treating and harbouring suspected terrorists, militants and gangsters at the North Nazimabad and Clifton branches of his hospital at the behest of some MQM and PPP leaders.
Dr Hussain, the chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, had been picked up by the paramilitary force of Rangers on Aug 26 last year.
