Triumphant Donald Trump elected US President, Clinton concedes

Triumphant Donald Trump elected US President, Clinton concedes
Republican Donald Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States on Wednesday in a shocking defeat of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, AP and The Guardian reported.
Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump and conceded the race to the Republican, CNN reported.
Trump's vice-presidential running mate, Mike Pence addressed a crowd before Trump took stage and termed it "a historic night."
"The American people have spoken, and the American people have elected their new champion. America has elected a new president," Pence said.
Donald Trump upended US politics with a campaign of venom, audacity and history, and has become the oldest man at age 70 to be elected into the White House.
The billionaire businessman has inherited an anxious nation, angry and distrustful of leaders in Washington.
He will preside over an economy that is improving but still leaving many behind, and a military less extended abroad than eight years ago, but grappling with new terror threats.
Hillary Clinton declined to speak at Clinton HQ late at night as Trump gained an unassailable lead. Clinton's campaign chair urged supporters to go home. "We will speak to you tomorrow," he said.

Tough contest

The 2016 race was the most bruising in modern memory.
In a presidential campaign that focused more on the character of the candidates than on policy, Clinton, 69, a former US secretary of state, and Trump, 70, accused each other of being fundamentally unfit to lead the country.
Obama's election eight years ago as the nation's first black president had raised hopes of uniting Americans, but the current contest has only highlighted the country's divisions ─ and the fact that voters are not necessarily happy with their options.
Exit polls by ABC News and NBC News found that both Clinton and Trump were seen as untrustworthy by majorities of voters, while most found Trump's temperament unpresidential.
World markets appear uncertain on the back of the election, as Trump's surprise victory has rattled the dollar and slammed stock markets into reverse in wild Asian trading.

This comedian's take on Pakistani politicians will leave you in fits

PHOTO: SYED SHAFAAT ALI/FACEBOOK

All major power players in Pakistani politics, including Altaf Hussain, Shahbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Imran Khan, have a distinct style — and some face palm moments — that are part of their political package.

A comedian named Syed Shafaat Ali has impersonated some of these politicians in a parody video that has been making the rounds on social media.
SCREENGRAB
One of the videos shows Ali imitating Imran, Shahbaz and Bilawal in their signature style, making speeches that made headlines.
As Imran, Ali speaks about his feelings towards Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, following by Shahbaz Sharif defending his brother. Ali also reenacts the hilarious exchange Bilawal had with a reporter regarding his marriage. “Whichever girl decides to marry me, it will be a very, very difficult task for her,” the PPP chairman recently said when asked about his marriage.

A second clip shows Ali mimicking the MQM leader’s loud, eccentric style of addressing crowds.
The video is a take on Altaf Hussain’s relationship with British government which is seemingly sour these days. Ali is seen imitating Altaf’s performance of the song Pardey Mein Rehnay Do, which he actually performed once during a press conference.

Hailing from Peshawar, Ali stars in Mere Aziz Hum Watno, aired on a local news channel.

Three civilians killed by Indian shelling in Azad Kashmir: police

Three civilians killed by Indian shelling in Azad Kashmir: police

Three people were killed and three others injured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir by Indian shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday, a senior official said.
Shelling began in the Battal sector at about 1:35pm, with Indian troops using both small and big arms and targeting civilian populations of the area, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mir Abid in district Poonch.
“A mortar shell landed on the house of one Zakir Hussain Shah in Mandhol village, killing his 45-year-old wife Kulsoom Fatima and 6-year-old daughter Aamina, on the spot,” SSP Abid said, adding that Shah’s brother Nazakat, 30, was critically injured.
He said that another man, Ashfaq, was killed near a place known as Mehndri Bridge.
Elsewhere in the same sector, the SSP said, a 62-year old man, Rafique Awan, and a housewife Rabia were also injured.
“The shelling is continuing,” he said.
Malick Zulfiqar, a local journalist, said exact details of casualties could be ascertained only the shelling stopped.
Battal, Madarpur and Dara Sher Khan sectors were hit after a day-long lull.
The shelling continues even as Pakistan on Tuesday lodged a protest with India over 'unprovoked' Indian fire across the Line of Control which resulted in the deaths of three people a day earlier.
On Sunday, six people, including two women, were injured and at least 25 houses and three vehicles were completely or partially damaged in shelling in the Battal, Madarpur and Darra Sher Khan sectors.
On Monday, these sectors remained calm, but Nakyal sector in the neighbouring Kotli district was badly hit, leaving three persons dead and another five wounded.
Elsewhere, three persons were injured in sporadic shelling in Neelum valley, towards northeast of Muzaffarabad on Monday.

Under the new agreement, Habib University students will be able to take classes under six-week session, eight-week session, or the entire 10-week term at University of California with choice of studying various courses from a range of over 600 courses taught by UC Berkeley faculty.
The students will also have the option to reside on or off campus in the town of Berkeley, with easy access to downtown San Francisco, it added.
Habib University students will have to undergo internal selection process where each prospective student will have to display a serious intent to study, provide insights into the possible courses of study, and explain their learning expectations from the multicultural experience and the entrepreneurial potential of Silicon Valley and UC Berkeley.
UC Berkeley also hosts the annual Mahomedali Habib Distinguished Lecture Series on Pakistan under The Berkeley Pakistan Initiative.
The 4th Mahomedali Habib Distinguished Lecture took place on November 6, 2016, at Berkeley. 'Plus one' formula: MQM denies inclusion of Pervez Musharraf as party leader

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan on Tuesday rejected speculations over the 'plus one' formula proposed by the counsel for former president Pervez Musharraf, where he had hinted the inclusion of Musharraf in MQM as a party leader.
A video statement of Ahmad Raza Kasuri had surfaced on Monday suggesting inclusion of Pervez Musharraf in MQM as a leader. But MQM issued a statement today to clear doubts regarding the speculation and rejected any such development.

MQM in its press release also rejected speculations carried out by the local media regarding a meeting between the former president and MQM leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan.

"MQM rejects media speculations over meeting of Khawaja Izharul Hassan with Pervez Musharraf and Ahmad Raza Kasuri's statement must be considered as his personal desire," read the statement.
"Musharraf and Izhar talked about political situation of country during the informal meeting but no such formula was discussed in the meeting," it added.
The party statement, however, incorrectly mentioned that Khurshid Kasuri, the former foreign minister, had issued the video statement while in reality it was Ahmad Raza Kasuri — the counsel for Musharraf — who had issued the statement.
Last month, MQM Pakistan amended its constitution to remove Altaf Hussain as party chief after his August 22 speech which created tense situation between the law enforcement agencies and MQM.
The agencies started crackdown against MQM after Altaf’s “Anti-National” speech.

Canadian Embassy denies visas to Pak taekwondo athletes over lack of funds

Canadian Embassy denies visas to Pak taekwondo athletes over lack of funds

Pakistan's two promising taekwondo athletes will not be able to chip in the WTF Junior World Taekwondo Championship as they have been denied visas by the Canadian Embassy, which stated that they have insufficient funds to travel to Canada and feature in the event.
“We had fulfilled all the prerequisites including the invitations, registration of athletes, getting their licences from World Taekwondo Federation and booking of hotel along with reservation of tickets. All these were required by Canadian Federation. But it is very embarrassing that we've been denied visas,” Lt Col (retd) Waseem Ahmed, President Pakistan Taekwondo Federation, told APP on Tuesday.
The event is scheduled to take place at Burnaby, Canada from November 14-20.
Waseem said that Pakistan Sports Board through Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination had to furnish no objection certificates (NOCs), which had been applied by the federation well in time on September 28.
“Similarly, the amount is also furnished by the government of Pakistan after the grant of visa. This is how we have been getting visas for several international events in the past,” he maintained.
He stated that it was shocking for the players who attended a training camp for the last two and a half months in Islamabad to prepare for the championship. “It would have been a great opportunity for our young players to compete at this level.”
“Taekwondo is getting popularity in Pakistan. Recently we held 11th Korean Ambassador Championship in Islamabad and a large number of young athletes from across the country participated in it,” he said.
Waseem, however, said that Pakistan's two female US-based athletes — Mahnoor (-55kg) and Nirma Wasiq (-52kg) — would participate in the junior taekwondo event.
“We are trying our best to hire services of a foreign coach who can assist our female athletes during the competition,” he said.

Hafeez to take bowling action test on November 17 in Brisbane

Hafeez to take bowling action test on November 17 in Brisbane

International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday confirmed to DawnNews that Muhammad Hafeez will undergo bowling action test on November 17 at Brisbane, Australia.
“Bowling action Test of Muhammad Hafeez will be taken on November 17 at Brisbane,” said ICC spokesman.
"Lougborough and Cardiff ruled out as they cant furnish the reports of Hafeez’s bowling test for some weeks, so we are trying to send him to Brisbane and try to get result before Pakistan’s series against Australia," the spokesman added.
The 36-year-old seasoned all-rounder — having represented Pakistan in 50 Tests, 177 ODIs and 77 T20s — has faced problems with his bowling action since 2014.
In July 2015, he was banned from bowling in international cricket for 12 months after his action was found to be illegal for a second time since November 2014.
PCB had hired a bowling coach Carl Crowe to help Hafeez correct his bowling action before taking the bowling assessment test in England but he decided against taking any test because of his fitness issues.
Hafeez was dropped from Pakistan squad for series against West Indies as he was experiencing injury and form issues.
He was also not considered for the two Test match series against New Zealand starting this month.
